AFTER-SCHOOL ART CLASSES

Join our exciting, exploratory, and educational after-school art classes for children and teens! Weekly art classes, Monday through Thursday, in multi-week sessions. {Fall Session, Sep. 23-Dec. 12; Winter Session, Jan. 6-Mar. 13; and Spring Session, Apr. 14-Jun. 5} With a focus on fine art education, each class teaches students about a diverse range of artists and art styles while using a variety of professional, high-quality art materials to create their own artworks, and build essential, foundational art skills in the process!

PAINTING & DRAWING

MONDAYS, 3:15-4:15pm (Ages 6-12)
8 Weeks: Apr. 14 - Jun. 2, $140

WEDNESDAYS, 3:15-4:15pm (Ages 6-12)

Students will experience a variety of high-quality art materials for painting and drawing including chalk and oil pastels, watercolor, gouache, and acrylic paints, ink and charcoal, while learning about values and textures, color mixing, and the basics of composition. Students will be exposed to diverse art styles and the works of influential artists both past and present which will inspire their own creative 2D artworks throughout the session.

EXPLORING ART

WEDNESDAYS, 2:00-3:00pm (Ages 6-12)
8 Weeks: Apr. 16 - Jun. 4, $140

Students will explore a broad mix of art materials, styles, and techniques over the course of the session, such as printmaking, painting, drawing, weaving and fiber arts, metal embossing, clay and sculpture, and other mixed media. (Not all media can be covered in one session, but count on a variety!) Students will learn about artists from around the world, past and present, who have become masters of their craft and inspire new ways of creating!

ROTATING CLASSES:

Offered on rotation (not always every session), featuring specific art mediums & materials:

STUDIO ART: DRAWING
AGES 10-14

TUESDAYS, 4:30-5:30pm
8 Weeks: Apr. 16 - Jun. 4, $140

  • In this Studio Art class, students will receive focused instruction in drawing and develop techniques with a variety of high-quality drawing materials from graphite and coloredpencils, to chalk and oilpastels, markers, ink and charcoal. Students will practice skills such as creating realistic 2D forms, sketching and shading in both color and grayscale, drawing from real life (still life objects and images), and drawing in specific artistic styles. Students will learn to develop values and textures in their art, and how to achieve balance and focalpoint in composition. Completion of new artworks will be rolling, usually every 2-3 weeks. All artwork will be ready to take home as a portfolio at the end of the session.

    NEW PROJECTS different from previous classes or camps. We strive to offer unique art projects from session to session, allowing students to continue with a program, such as “Studio Art: Drawing”, without repeating the same project from a different session.

Ceramics: Handbuilding
AGES 8-14

WEDNESDAYS, 4:30-5:30pm
8 Weeks: Apr. 16 - Jun. 4, $200

  • Students will use ceramic clay for a variety of handbuilding and sculpture projects, learning techniques for slab and coil building that will help in constructing a variety of clay projects throughout the session. Projects will range from animal figurines, themed sculptures, wall hangings & relief sculptures, dishes, platters, and bowls, as well as other functional and decorative pieces. Students will paint the ceramic projects (once dried) with colorful glaze, and all pieces will be fired in a kiln.

    Completed pieces will be featured in the Student Art Show, and any remaining ceramics to be fired will be available for pick up 2-3 weeks after session end.

Cartooning & Illustration
AGES 6-9 / 10-14

TUESDAYS, 3:15-4:15pm, Ages 6-9
8 Weeks: Apr. 15 - Jun. 3, $140

THURSDAYS, 4:30-5:30pm, Ages 10-14
8 Weeks: Apr. 17 - Jun. 5, $140

  • In this class, students will make projects based on familiar cartooning styles and movie animation. Some projects are based on book illustration or graphic design, comic book art, and the Japanese cartooning styles of Anime, including Kawaii & Chibi characters. Students will draw and paint with diverse materials such as art pencils, illustration markers, paint pens, and acrylic & watercolor paints. Occasionally, projects will be sculptural. Students will create expressive characters, learn about drawing 3D forms and shading, paint landscapes and backgrounds that match imaginative stories and fantasy worlds, and practice established illustrative art styles including Manga and Pop-Art. Completion of artworks will be rolling, usually every 2-3 weeks. All artwork will be ready to take home as a portfolio at the end of the session.

    Learning: Cartooning, Character Design, Illustrating Emotion & Expression, Comic Book Art & Visual Storytelling, Color Theory, Shading & Values, Perspective, Scale & Proportions, Landscape Elements, Painting & Brush Control, Contemporary Art

STUDIO ART: PAINTING
AGES 10-14

NOT OFFERED SPRING SESSION.
AVAILABLE AGAIN IN AN UPCOMING SESSION.

  • In this Studio Art class, students will receive focused instruction in painting and develop techniques using a variety of high-quality painting materials including watercolor, acrylic, and gouache paints, as well as acrylic markers and watercolor pencils. Students will practice painting in a range of styles and will observe the works of well-known artists– both classic and contemporary– to inspire personal painted art pieces! While painting on diverse surfaces (paper, wooden panel, canvas), they will learn about composition, values and textures, color theory and color mixing, and improve their brush control. Completion of artworks will be rolling, usually every 2-3 weeks. All artworks will be collected to take home as a portfolio at the end of the session.

    NEW PROJECTS different from previous classes or camps. We strive to offer unique art projects from session to session, allowing students to continue with a program, such as “Painting and Drawing”, without repeating the same project from a different session.

    Learning: Acrylic, Gouache, and Watercolor Painting, Color Theory, Brush Control, Texture & Blending Techniques, Focal Point & Composition, Realism, Impressionism, Contemporary Art, Art History

Fiber ARts Class
AGES 8-14

AVAILABLE AGAIN IN AN UPCOMING SESSION.

  • Weaving mini tapestries with wool and yarn, learning basketry, needle & wet felting, sewing, embroidery, batik & fabric dye techniques, and more; students will explore a diverse range of handicraft with textiles & needle arts! They will practice patterns and no doubt improve their focus and dexterity through the session. How do you turn wool fibers into felt? How do fiber artists use natural materials? We’ll carefully create in multiple ways, and learn about traditional & cultural fiber art along the way.

    NEW PROJECTS than previous classes or camps. We strive to offer unique art projects from session to session, allowing students to continue with a program, such as “Exploring Art”, without repeating the same project from a different session.

    Learning: Textiles & Weaving Materials, Sewing Basics, Loom Structure & Techniques, Felting, Fabric Dying, Basket-making, Sewing & Embroidery

INTRO TO ART
AGES 5-6

NOT OFFERED SPRING SESSION.
AVAILABLE AGAIN IN AN UPCOMING SESSION.

  • Our youngest students will experience a variety of art-making and learn foundational art techniques: color-mixing with paint, drawing using shapes and symmetry, and creating with 3D materials. They will learn the basics of composition, and will be exposed to various art styles and often the works of well-known artists. A great way to step into structured art education; each project is instructor-led with specific goals and skills set for each exciting project! Students will complete a new artwork every 1-2 weeks. All artwork will be ready to take home as a portfolio at the end of the session. Parents are not expected to stay during class time.
