MON-THU, APRIL 6-9:
Welcome to Japan! Students will be immersed in the beautiful art and inspiring culture of Japan, learning about both ancient art-making practices like Shibori dye, ink printmaking (think, Hokusai’s Great Wave), and calligraphy, as well as modern animation (Anime), and Japanese cartooning. We will capture the spring blossoms of the cherry trees in acrylicpainting, sculpt a clay “Totoro” character from the popular Japanese film by Studio Ghibli, and include projects inspired by Japanese cuisine, too: Mochi, Boba Tea, and Sushi! Say “Kon'nichiwa” to a super fun and creative week ahead!Learning: Art History & Culture, Anime and Kawaii Styles, Shibori Dye, Printmaking, Painting and Drawing, Color Theory, Brush Control & Blending, Shading & Values, Composition, 3D Clay Sculpture, Paper Art & Notan, Character Design, Contemporary Art
FRIDAY, APRIL 10:
Enjoy TWO projects continuing the week’s theme of Japanese-inspired artwork: Create a Kawaii-style character using colorful alcohol markers and ink. Paint a striking koi fish in a spring pond with watercolors.—
We will take a 20-minute break halfway through each morning. Please bring your own water bottle and you’re welcome to pack a snack (mindful of nut allergies). Snacks are not provided.
Please wear your "Make For Joy" Art Camp T-Shirt.
Program is nonrefundable. See "Policies" on our website for more details.
FAMILY ART NIGHT COMING UP!
Lego Printmaking
Thursday, April 30, 2026
4:30-5:15pm (45 minutes)
OR 5:15-6:00pm (45 minutes)
LEGO Printmaking is back! This is so much fun, makers of all ages will enjoy creating a flat plate design for printing using LEGO “Dots” pieces. Thinking about symmetry, balance, and interesting composition, you can make a pattern, an animal or creature, or something else for your design. Once your LEGO plate design is ready, roll on colorful printmaking ink with a brayer tool, and then transfer your plate onto paper like a stamp to get the imprint of the pieces. Create flat art to frame or make several folded cards with your LEGO art. You can’t keep the LEGOs, but you will keep all that you print with them!
Choose which 45-min time slot you want to join. Each participant creates their own LEgo plate & art prints. Instruction provided, with lots of room for creativity. All supplies provided, including aprons for children. Themed coloring pages provided for younger participants and early finishers.
Learning: Printmaking Basics, Design & Composition, Geometric Shapes, Registration & Editions
Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
