“Welcome To Japan” Art Camp

April 6-9 • Monday-Thursday
9am-12pm • Ages 7-12

“Kawaii & Koi”
Art Camp

Friday, April 10
9am-12pm • Ages 7-12

  • MON-THU, APRIL 6-9:
Welcome to Japan! Students will be immersed in the beautiful art and inspiring culture of Japan, learning about both ancient art-making practices like Shibori dye, ink printmaking (think, Hokusai’s Great Wave), and calligraphy, as well as modern animation (Anime), and Japanese cartooning. We will capture the spring blossoms of the cherry trees in acrylicpainting, sculpt a clayTotoro” character from the popular Japanese film by Studio Ghibli, and include projects inspired by Japanese cuisine, too: Mochi, Boba Tea, and Sushi! Say “Kon'nichiwa” to a super fun and creative week ahead!

Learning: Art History & Culture, Anime and Kawaii Styles, Shibori Dye, Printmaking, Painting and Drawing, Color Theory, Brush Control & Blending, Shading & Values, Composition, 3D Clay Sculpture, Paper Art & Notan, Character Design, Contemporary Art

    FRIDAY, APRIL 10:

Enjoy TWO projects continuing the week’s theme of Japanese-inspired artwork: Create a Kawaii-style character using colorful alcohol markers and ink. Paint a striking koi fish in a spring pond with watercolors.

We will take a 20-minute break halfway through each morning. Please bring your own water bottle and you’re welcome to pack a snack (mindful of nut allergies). Snacks are not provided.

Please wear your "Make For Joy" Art Camp T-Shirt.
Program is nonrefundable. See "Policies" on our website for more details.
